L.A.C.A.D.A. History

Lapeer County saw eight murders related to Domestic Violence in 1990. The following year a group of concerned citizens organized LACADA.  With financial help from United Way, Zonta, Family Independence Agency, and VOCA (Victims of Crime Act), LACADA began operations September 1, 1991.  In the beginning, LACADA was primarily run by volunteers from the community.  The shelter served 33 women and 43 children in its first year.

Since the inception, LACADA has grown significantly to enhance services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
